‘Australia’s Next Top Model’ star Lucy Markovic dies at 27

Lucy Markovic, a model who competed in Australia’s Next Top Model and took part in fashion shows for brands like Versace and Bulgari, has died. She was only 27 years old.

Her death was announced by her agency, Elite Model Management, in an Instagram post, where she was described as a “bright shining light” who “had an incredible dry sense of humor.”

“Her smile and laughter could light up a room, and draw you closer to her. She loved to dance, she really shined,” they said. “Modeling was one of Lucy’s dreams, and we are deeply honored to have been part of that journey with her. She brought elegance, strength, and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought herself—her warmth, her laughter, her light.”

To her family and friends, please know that you are in our prayers and in our hearts. We mourn with you, and we celebrate the incredible person Lucy was. We will never forget her,” Markovic’s management continued.

According to her agency, Markovic battled with a brain arteriovenous malformation—a rare condition where a tangle of blood vessels “create irregular connections between arteries and veins in the brain,” according to health information website Mayo Clinic. It can cause brain damage or stroke.

In a now-deleted Instagram photo showing her in a hospital, Markovic shared she would be undergoing surgery for AVM just a few weeks before her death. “Full flood of emotions in this time. Life’s a journey and I’m ready for the next chapter,” she captioned her post, revealing that she had the rare disease for four years.

Markovic was one of the contestants in Australia’s Next Top Model Season 9, where she emerged as a runner-up.

She later appeared in ads and walked the runways for renowned brands such as Bulgari, Givency, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, among many others.
