As if being a homeless dog wasn’t horrible enough, this dog had a family before he was abandoned on a beach in Newport, California. To make matters worse, the growth on his side was making him carry 46 extra pounds.
Fortunately, a cute stranger spotted Henry, the dog, strolling along the beach and alerted Valerie Schomburg from the Newport Beach Animal Control. Nothing could have prepared the rescuers at the National Reserve Bank for what Henry looked like. They were used to shoveling stray dogs in a terrible form.
The tumor was so large that it was squeezing his right front leg in the shoulder area, preventing him from walking. He had difficulty not only finding food, but also getting around.
Despite all the challenges that Henry faced in such a short time, he maintained the zest for life. He was always cheerful and wagging his tail, he adored everyone who encountered him. Henry was drooling kisses on anyone who got too close.
Fortunately, Schomburg was able to raise enough funds, with the help of grants, for Henry to have surgery to remove the huge tumor. Despite the malignant nature of the tumor, it has not spread.
The surgery was successful, and Henry felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders. After the tumor was removed, he weighed 78 pounds and could finally walk easily. After the surgery, he went to live with a loving sitter through the Newport Beach Animal Shelter and enthusiastically made up for lost time.
After his story was picked up by the media, Henry became a local star, and now he has followers from all over the world. People brought him gifts and snacks from all over the world to express their gratitude for being inspired by his story.
Henry died quietly in his sleep, but not before making the most of his time on Earth and experiencing love for the first time. His bright smile and constant tail wagging indicated his boundless enthusiasm for life.
Although his death is heartbreaking, some good has come from her. After further research, they manage to track down Henry’s former owner. Her criminal case is still ongoing after the Oak County District Attorney’s office charged her.
